Past sessions of The Biz

is our monthly all-age, interactive, creative hands-on experience for all the family. It's church like you've never experienced it before.

On 26th September we looked at a story that Jesus told, the parable of the sower - "A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root.Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop—a hundred, sixty or thirty times what was sown"

We had 4 workshops: Planting cress in egg shells with faces drawn on them and planting daffodil and crocus bulbs, making a collage of the story, decorating photo frames with seeds, and creative writing. We also had all kinds of different bread and lots of different things to put on it.

At the end we learnt that the seed in the story is the good news about Jesus - that He came to show us how much God loves us. The question is how are we going to respond to that love. These are the different kinds of ground:

  • The hard path are the people with hard hearts that ignore God's love and reject it out of hand
  • The shallow ground are the people who respond enthusiastically at first but when things get tough wither away.
  • The thorns are those who are easily distracted by material things, wealth and other things.
  • The good soil are those who experience God's love and respond to it in the long-term building up a real personal relationship with Jesus and live fruitful lives for Him.

What kind of ground are you?
